My first trip to Mparntwe / Alice Springs was in 1975 on the Old Ghan, following family who had moved here from Ballarat, Victoria. From 1976 to 1979 I lived in Adelaide and returned in 1980, after having completed Art & Graphic Design studies. This has been my home since.
My background in graphic design and textile arts led me to screen-printing fabric, much of which I produced in the 1980s & 90s and which has adorned bodies, beds, tables, walls and kitchens across Australia. To create and produce provides much satisfaction and contentment. I have always loved colourful patterns and intricacy and detail.
Painting has since become my favourite pursuit when I am not working on graphic design or sewing projects. I like to paint places that are a bit different, small snapshots bathed in special light and colour. My connection to this place is expressed in my work – the ancient land, the colour, the contrasts of severity and softness, strength and fragility that are experienced here.
My interpretive signage work for the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory assists in introducing to visitors the many breathtaking National Parks and Reserves in Central Australia.
