About me

Jose Moreno Melli (b. 1980, Málaga, Spain) has developed a distinctive artistic language inspired by both the natural world and the subtle rhythms of everyday life. His practice balances spontaneity with contemplation, giving rise to a body of work in which absence becomes a central aesthetic and conceptual force.

Rather than focusing solely on what is depicted, Melli explores the expressive potential of what remains unseen. In his compositions, empty spaces are not mere voids but active elements that engage in dialogue with form, creating tensions and harmonies that enrich the visual experience. Silence, incompleteness, and interruption become integral components of the work, revealing new meanings and inviting multiple interpretations.

This sensitivity to absence transforms each piece into an open field of perception, where what is omitted acquires a presence equal to that of what is represented. Through this approach, Melli challenges conventional ways of seeing and encourages a more attentive engagement with the subtle and the ephemeral.

Rooted in observation and guided by an intuitive process, his work reflects a continuous search for balance between presence and disappearance, materiality and emptiness, immediacy and reflection. Each work proposes a distinct perspective, inviting viewers to look beyond the visible and to consider those elusive dimensions that escape immediate perception, where memory, imagination, and experience converge.
