About me

Christian Rodolfo Gaibor Costales is a distinguished contemporary artist and the founder of Gaiborismo, a pioneering school of Ecuadorian contemporary figurative art. Gaibor has become one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 21th century, known for his avant-garde large-scale canvases, Gaibor masterfully blends a contemporary variation of the fresco technique with cutting-edge digital technologies, redefining the boundaries of modern visual expression.

 

Early Life & Influences

Born into the prestigious Costales family of poets and artists, Gaibor inherited a profound artistic and literary heritage. As the son of renowned writer Susana Costales and grandson of Luis A. Costales, he displayed extraordinary talent for the arts from a young age. His early education was enriched by masterclasses in classical music, ballet, theater, drawing, and painting, from celebrated international artists.

Riverside Poly High School, became the foundation for his artistic development. There, his passion for poetry and literature flourished, complementing his growing expertise in sculpture and digital arts. Under the mentorship of Dr. Stavros, he was encouraged to experiment freely, ultimately shaping the distinctive style Gaiborismo.

Education & Global Influence

Determined to expand his artistic knowledge, Gaibor pursued studies in various art disciplines at prestigious institutions, including the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance, Marymount Manhattan College, Academy of Art College, and Juilliard. He obtained degrees in: B.A. Drawing and Painting, M.A. in Fine Arts and Art History, and  AI and Digital Media.

His work soon found a place in globally renowned museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Guggenheim Museum, and The Getty Museum, among others.

 

Traveling extensively around the world, he immersed himself in the diverse cultural and artistic landscapes of the Americas, Asia, and the Caribbean Islands before returning to his hometown to establish his fine arts studio. From there, he developed a revolutionary approach to contemporary Ecuadorian figurative art, teaching at schools and colleges, sharing his expertise, and cultivating the next generation of artists.

 

Innovation & Global Recognition

In 2020, Gaibor began integrating technology into his visual work, embracing AI, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). This led to the creation of Titi Monkey Productions, a digital media studio established to further expand his artistic vision of the world.

 

Asia—especially Thailand—became a major source of inspiration for his recent works. In 2024, he launched a groundbreaking series of paintings, drawings, and digital media, further pushing the boundaries of modern art.

​His distinctive portrayals of bulls, horses, and women earned him a place in Latin America’s most prestigious exhibitions, where he showcased his work alongside Fernando Botero, Litta Cabellut and Mikael Benitez.

​This milestone made him  to be recognized among the top artists in the world—an honor that cemented his legacy as a transformative force in Ecuadorian and Latin American contemporary art.
