Anne-Marie Whiley

I am a self-taught contemporary artist.  My work explores energy and emotion, through expressive colour and intuitive mark-making. I work primarily in acrylic, building each painting through layers of texture, allowing traces of previous marks and colours to remain visible as part of the final image. 

I live near the beach and am drawn to vintage and coastal culture.  I paint female figures, flowers and gardens, and moments in nature, not always as literal representations, but as starting points for exploring atmosphere, and feeling.

I use loose brushwork, spontaneous colour relationships, and varied tools to invite viewers to experience the painting.  Rather than pursuing realism, I aim to express emotion and musical energy. My paintings balance recognisable forms with abstraction, encouraging viewers to form their own connection. Whether depicting the quiet solitude of a figure or the exuberance of blooming flowers, I seek to create works that celebrate the beauty found in everyday moments while embracing the expressive possibilities of paint itself.

One of my favourite things to do, is to create paintings especially for a collector, that is designed to suite their unique space. I want my paintings to evoke joy and relaxation.  I want to allow people the opportunity to experience colour texture, and movement, and to feel connected.
