Patrice Wills

Patrice has an extensive professional background working and training in the realms of visual arts, education and health currently traversing work as an arts educator and her own artistic practice.  Patrice brings this life experience to her practice which reflects and explores the human condition and spirit. 

Patrice records her experiences from life, and appreciation of country en plein air and then back in the studio draws upon these studies and memories, utilizing the sensuous materiality of paint. Patrice paints her connection to people and places resulting in work soaked in feeling and mood aiming to capture all that she has seen and felt.  The work is an exploration of women’s psychological position in place and the interconnectedness of the figure and the landscape. 

Patrice often returns to iconic Australian landscapes such as the desert, the outback, and the beach, that carry a macho mythology and history.  These vast wild places act as metaphors unpacking concerns of freedom, resilience, and longing, whilst amplifying women’s agency.

Patrice’s expressive painterly work is exhibited regularly, and frequently selected as a finalist in art awards and accrued in private collections
