Helen Mortimer

 I have always loved painting, even as a child I was drawn to art. I feel a need to paint and to explore various themes in my work.  I paint with oils and I enjoy exploring a wide range of subjects from portraits to still life and surrealist subjects. I am always thinking about my next painting. I enjoy the challenge of working with realistic imagery and the mystic when creating ambiguity within a painting. I exhibit regularly and I also work on commissions.  

I find my inspiration from everyday life. I am always looking to find interesting people who exude character. I also love painting flowers in particular flowers that are beginning to wilt and exhibit signs of deterioration. I also like to create paintings that make the viewer consider what the painting is about. I do this by looking for inspiration in unusual places, it is the juxtaposing of imagery that creates a sense of intrigue.  

I am a professional artist, I have a Diploma of Art from Newcastle College of Advanced Education and a Bachelor of Arts Visual Arts, Newcastle University.
