Ella Condon

She is interested in the notion of the ‘invisible’ and the spectrum of vision beyond sight, engaging with speculative distances and astronomical darkness. 

 Recent residencies include at the Vatican Observatory, Rome (2017), The University of Tasmania Groete Reber Radio Telescope (2016), Sydney Observatory Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (2015).   

 Recent projects include Dark [Other] Times, Plimsoll Gallery, I can see for miles, CCP (2018), Unmapping, Sydney Story Factory and MCA Learning (2017), One If by Night, Artist Alliance and Bike NY night ride (2017), Signals Received, Plimsoll Gallery AIR UTAS (2016), video projections in Liverpool for Casula Powerhouse (2016).  In 2015 she coordinated Unbound, an exhibition at Parramatta Artists Studios Sydney and Sawtooth, Tasmania, and exhibited night projections for Light Year on the Manhattan Bridge, Street Screen Australian Centre for Photography,  Island Salon Cockatoo Island Underbelly Arts Festival.  In 2014 she exhibited at Chasm Gallery Brooklyn, Manhattan Movement and Arts Centre New York, American Australian Alliance Dame Joan Sutherland Showcase New York, The Freedman Foundation Travelling Artist Scholarship Sydney, Casula Powerhouse Sydney, The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award Brisbane, Contemporary's Contemporaries and Waverly Art Prize Sydney. Her work has been exhibited in a range of artist-run and regional galleries, and screen in public settings.   Condon's work and has been acquired by the Gold Coast City Art Gallery and Australia Council of the Arts.    

 Conference papers include 'Photographic Shift(s): Ubiquity vs Sublime' at The Society for Photographic Education with artists Magali Duzant, Matt Whitman and Professor James Ramer (chair), 'Sculpting with Light' at the Project Anywhere Conference, Parsons School of Design, New York. She is a recipient of Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant, National Association of Visual Artists Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship and American Australian Association Dame Joan Sutherland Fund.  

 Ella Condon has a Master of Fine Art by Research from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney and Parsons, The New School for Design, New York.  She is a recipient of the Australian Postgraduate Award, Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Exchange Scholarship and National Association for the Visual Arts Australian Artists' Grant.  She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hons 1) from Sydney College of Arts, University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Distinction) from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW.
