Aldona Kmieć is a Polish-born photographic artist based in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia. She migrated to Australia in 2009, setting up a studio in Ballarat. Working across photography and installation, her art practice merges aspects of conceptual, staged, and documentary photography.
Recent projects include Veil which explores memory and time through long-exposure photography, movement and colour, ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ Banyule City Council’s installation of street art (2024), State Library Victoria commissions (2021-2022), In the Process of Healing (2017) site-specific installation at Ballarat Intl Foto Biennale and We R You (2013-2015), participatory paste up project in Ballarat.
Aldona’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Australia, UK and Poland and featured on The Design Files. Her work has been shown at London’s Truman Brewery Gallery, Ballarat Art Gallery, Ballarat Foto Biennale festival, Bayside Gallery, Centre for Contemporary Photography Melbourne, East Gippsland Gallery, Frankston Arts Centre, Head On Photography Festival, Latrobe Regional Gallery, Linden Art Gallery, Loft 275 Gallery, Melbourne City Library, Museum of Australian Photography, Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre, Perth Centre for Photography, RACV Creswick resort, State Library of Victoria, St John of God HQ Art Collection Perth, Tacit Art, and Victorian Artists Society. Her photography is held in public and private collections worldwide.
